Scenes from the school house this week

We began the week with Magdalena teaching us how to prepare and cook a traditional Tanzanian meal - a stew of maize and beans .
The maize was pounded to crush it (twanga).
It was then threshed (pepeta).

Any remaining rubbish was then picked out of the grain and beans by hand.
An outdoor charcoal burner was lit (kerosene added) and allowed to heat up.
The maize, beans and some vegetables were added to the cooking pot and simmered for about 3 hours.
It was delicious - we ate our efforts for lunch.

We are talking about animals this half term - each student has chosen their favourite one for us to learn about.

Today Colleen came up to the school and gave a music lesson. It was a lot of fun.

And Stephen took some lovely photos of the children (as well as doing some filing for me).
